Taiwan Beauty Haul and Trip Highlights

March 30, 2016

Hi everyone! Sorry I’ve been gone for a couple of weeks. I was in Taiwan for two weeks working on a school project! Before the trip, I made a long wish list of Asian branded beauty products and I was able to purchase most of them! I will be writing about them in the future after I get a chance to try them out. Most of these are cult products so you may be familiar with some of them. I love Asian skincare because the product innovations are typically 3-5 years ahead of the US. For example, they have many skincare items with snail mucin (gross, right?), which is said to do everything from fading dark spots and scars to plumping creases and battling acne. The venom found in snails relax muscle fibers to battle wrinkles. It also stimulates the production of elastin and collagen. I purchased so many items with snail ingredient–sheet masks, moisturizer, serum. I’ll try not to think about where they came from as I’m using them! I cannot wait to try everything and review them for you!

After the final presentation of the project, we had a couple of days off to explore. Taiwan has high-temperature springs with crystal-clear water, usually both clean and safe to drink. These hot springs are commonly used for spas and resorts. We went to a hot spring in the town of Yilan. The room we booked was the best place I’ve ever stayed at. It has three levels: the first two levels have the beds and the third level was a private deck. We had an indoor and outdoor hot spring, which was super nice because we spent the day in the outdoor hot spring, and at night we relaxed in the indoor hot spring while streaming a movie on our laptop. We also hired a private driver to take us to different places around Hualien, with the highlight being Taroko Gorge and a 2-mile hike in that area.

I am happy I had the opportunity to visit Taiwan and explore parts of the country. It reminds me of Japan except with less traffic congestion and people. If there were job opportunities I’m interested in, I think it would be a great place to live. The country is safe and clean, the people are quiet and polite, and things are extremely affordable there (when compared to US standards). A tasty large meal might cost $3 max, and a large milk tea is less than .50cents! Seriously I had 2-3 milk tea a day. I was so spoiled. Now I’m back to paying $5 for fake powdered tea, aahh! Now that I’m back in the US, I will be blogging more often. I have lots of new content ideas so please subscribe! Thank you!

New Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick

March 11, 2016

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick

I am a big fan of Bite Beauty! I love the agave lip mask and have several shades of the matte crème lip crayon. Recently, I received three shades of the amuse bouche lipstick from influencer and I couldn’t wait to test them out. They are highly pigmented with extreme moisture and hydration, and has a creamy texture. Lipsticks often dry my lips, even if it claims to be hydrating, so I was skeptical of the claims, but my lips felt moisturized and soft all day. I think as long as you wear lip balm, these won’t be drying like most lipsticks. The lipsticks are made from 12 edible oils such as organic fruit butters, jojoba, and castor oil, and are free of polybutenes, sulfates, and petroleum byproducts. There are currently 34 shades available, and the newly released shades are gazpacho, beetroot, and pepper. The three shades are universally flattering on different skin tones, but my go-to shade has been pepper, which is a dusty rose. Gazpacho is a bright red–perfect to wear on a night out. Beetroot is a beautiful berry that I love wearing during a minimal makeup day.

If you have not tried Bite Beauty yet, I’d highly recommend any of their products. I did receive these products for free to try, but I have been using their products for years so I can really vouch for the quality.

Life update: Yesterday was the last day of my winter quarter. It’s scary how fast time is flying by and I cannot believe I only have one more quarter left of business school! I am leaving for Taiwan tomorrow on a 2-week consulting project so I may not be able to blog as often. Please add ditchtheheels on Instagram if you want to follow my Taiwan foodie adventure and see all of the Asian beauty products I’ll be purchasing! If you have any Asian branded beauty recommendations, please add them in the comments below!

February Beauty Discoveries

March 5, 2016

IMG_4982

I am so excited to talk about my February beauty discoveries! For those new to my blog, every month I write about new beauty discoveries instead of monthly favorites since my favorites don’t change very often. I try to use these discoveries for the entire month in order to write a fair review. This month I discovered some FANTASTIC products:

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette – This is now one of my top 3 makeup products! It was on my wishlist for almost a year before purchase. Everytime I walked through a Sephora, I just had to look at this because I love the packaging and the colors are just BEAUTIFUL! I finally decided to purchase because I can use it as a finishing powder, a highlighter, and a bronzer. The finishing powder doesn’t provide a matte finish like some of my other powders, but I love that it diminish imperfections and makes my skin look airbrushed. The highlighter is extremely pretty, though I am not sure if I like this one more than my BECCA highlighter. I had an extremely bad experience with a Sephora makeup artist applying the wrong bronzer or too much bronzer on my face that I never wanted to give it another try. I was not committed to purchasing a full size bronzer, so this palette was perfect. The bronzer looks natural on my skin and gives my face extra dimension. It is perfect for anyone starting out with makeup since everything you need is in one palette, and it’s perfect for travel as well.

Hourglass Lighting Blush Diffused Heat – This is my new favorite blush. These blushes are fused with ambient lighting powder, which creates a great balance between color and powder. This is so finely milled that a little goes a long way! The color is extremely gorgeous and stays on all day.

Tatcha Camellia Nourishing Lip Balm – My lips was extremely dry and chapped in January, and no matter what I used, nothing was working. I started to search online and one of my favorite YouTube bloggers, Ingrid Nilsen, talked about this item on her January favorites video. I didn’t purchase this right away because I was shocked by the price. $36 for a .28oz lip balm?? That’s crazy! Luckily, I found out Tatcha was offering a $25 off $50 purchase, so I ordered the lip balm and the cleansing oil. I love this lip balm. It’s extremely moisturizing and does not leave my lips sticky or glossy. I can apply lipstick without the lip balm sliding around. I did not like the hand-laid 24-karat gold leaf–it didn’t do anything for the lips and I couldn’t wait to get this out of the way. Overall, this is the best lip balm I’ve ever used but I still need to see how long the jar will last before I decide if the price is worth repurchasing.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance – This makes my eyeshadows look better and stay on all day. While I like this product, this primer is colorless and I would prefer an alternative such as the Too Faced Shadow Insurance in Champagne (discontinued!) or MAC Bare Study Paint Pot.
